Flickr posted recently that their website would go some serious changes. It seems they’ll come faster than expected.
In the last years several photo sharing sites stormed the market, including specifics as 500px and social networks as Facebook. This new market took Flickr to lose many users, even more when the website started charging for the previously free service.
Now the new service seems to be just around the corner, in record time to stop the ‘user bleeding’ as soon as possible. I read around the websphere that the release date is supposed to be February 28th. The key changes that are expected:
- new and improved upload interface
- improved photo display, reducing unused areas and distractions
- discontinuation of some services as Photo Session and Picnik (online photo editor)
In a service backed by Yahoo!, can we expect less than the best available options? I hope not. So let’s wait briefly to evaluate if the new and improved Flickr can resist the ever-growing competition. Certainly would not hurt to see some easy photo editing tool, social network integration and photo selling/printing services.
