Yep, it is official now. Just days after rumors on Nikon D800 being late due to possible production issues, Canon released a product advisory stating that its 5D MarkIII has some light leak issues.
You can see the problem in action by watching the video below. On the advisory Canon wrote: “Phenomenon: In extremely dark environments, if the LCD panel illuminates, the displayed exposure value may change as a result of the AE sensor’s detection of light from the LCD panel.” In lamest terms, if it is dark and you use the LCD backlight, its brightness is going to leak to the sensor and probably spoil the photo.
Unfortunately the problem maybe more than just LCD Light, as it appears on the next video. It seems that any light on this area might affect the sensor and that might be a serious issue to fix, hardly addressed as a firmware update.
