OK, just to get started I need to tell you to cool down your expectations because despite the drops prices are still way out of most photographer’s pockets.
The amazing manufacturer of full marvel medium format has decided to promote some serious price cuts on its camera line up. Some of these discounts are more than 20%! In my honest opinion, this is deeply related to Full Frame dSLRs that are coming much closer to the medium format, but cost only a fraction. See the Nikon D800 with its 36Mp sensor and its test results, for an example.
The entry level H4D-31comes with 35-90mm lens got a 22% discount and costs now about 12k Euros (about US$15k). The 60 mega-pixel H4D-60 price tag was reduced by 20% to around 24k Euros, about US$30,000. Other advantages are that the trade-in program was updated and you can put your old gear to get some amazing new cameras and you can get a second lens for 50% until July 2012. Read more and see the trade in details on Hasselblad’s website.
This is a VERY interesting move to see on the market, as we can expect more price drops from top notch manufacturers, driven by tough competition. If we consider that Nikon D800 costs around US$3k and with the best optics around (24-70mm + 70-200mm) it wil add up to US$7.3k, there is some fierce price pressures around!
