Early adopters and mavens beware! For thou bravery shall be rewarded with… RECALLS!
Soon after Canon assumed the issues with the new 5D3, now it’s Nikon’s time to do some house cleaning. Aside from the battery recall, some new Issues reported around the web show some unidentified problem with D800 ’s viewfinder/LCD screen, and maybe focusing system. There are some differences between issues, but most cases claim to get out of focus images on the screen and viewfinder, even though sometimes the actual picture was correct.
Another issue reported is some weird freezing with both the D800 and D4. This has been posted byNikon Rumors a while ago and seems to build up in numbers as the camera gets to more and more hands around the globe. According to several sources the camera just locks up and there is nothing that can be done to solve it, except taking out the battery. Nikon wrote to PDN Online telling a temporary way to minimize this issue:
“Nikon has received reports of a small number of D4/D800 users who are experiencing ‘locking up’ issues, where the camera becomes unresponsive until the battery is removed and reinserted. Nikon is investigating a permanent solution to this issue and will update users accordingly. To immediately resolve this issue, users can turn off both the ‘Highlights’ and ‘RGB Histogram’ display options in the ‘Playback Display Options’ sub-menu found in the ‘Playback’ menu. Nikon apologizes for any inconvenience this may have caused users.”
What do all these problems mean? Looks like manufacturers rush so much to release several awesome new products that the time to run tests is not enough. Regardless of the reasons, those willing to pay extra and be the first should not overlook the recall/repair possibilities.
