I guess absolutely everybody already understands back-ups are a major necessity. At home with several hard drives, on the cloud, with hired services… Doesn’t really matter as long as you do it, a lot, always.
But what if the back-up medium fails? Whose fault is it? Lawyer Perminder Tung considers Apple is to blame for the Time Capsule failure that lead to the loss. As he claims, he should be eligible to a recall in 2010, but was kept out due to the date he bought the device. The result is a US$25,000 case against Apple, wich should tickle their finances, but could open a curious and dangerous precedent. Afterall, I would love to read who is to blame in you opinion. Please post your comments on that.
Despite the court judgement, YOU should always back-up in several ways, both at home and outside. I’ve read and discussed a lot about the back-up process and its integration with our digital lives for Pro’s and Amateurs and found out that ALL of us should really exaggerate on the back-ups. One instance in you computer, the second still at home in some other storage medium and CERTAINLY something over the cloud or with some web service (I love to use Dropbox!). That is the absolute MINIMUM to do.
