This is a very nice video with two major interests for me. First it shows how a digital camera works, in very well done animation and that alone would be nice enough. The second thing I like is that it shows the manufacture process of lenses, sensors and cameras by Canon. (please set aside any brand preference, the video is very nice regardless the brand!)
It is very interesting to some technical production aspects and how many Japanese people show on video! And I was particularly amazed by how important the simulation process is in the development stages, reducing prototypes and trial/error steps. As expected, the process is a lot more automated than we saw with Leica and its jaw-breaking Hermes series. But we should take into consideration that the latter is produced in MUCH smaller numbers and target a completely different market (a “little” more expensive).
I would have liked to see some more about the testing process. I’d love to see detailed info about tests, how they are done, how many times they are done/how rigorous they are and the limits the cameras have.
Very cool! What do you think? Leave a comment below or at the video.
