Yes, you’ve read it right. Ahae is a South-Korean artist and inventor who proposed himself a simple yet extremely challenging project: register everything everyday from the same window.
Have you ever wondered how many points of view or different subjects can you extract from your very window? Take a peek right now and imagine yourself making just one photo everyday. How long would it take for you to run out of ideas? Now try to add a few digits to the number of photos. Still think you could do it? That is exactly what Ahae does, he takes an insane amount of 2 to 4 THOUSAND photos everyday, regardless of weather conditions or photographer’s inspiration. With that he registers the nature from his studio’s point of view in a surprising variety of pictures.
From landscapes to tiny details everything is portrayed. If you go through the galleries at his website you will see an enormous variety of pictures. This collections have granted him lots of press, critique compliments and expositions from from the Louvre in Paris to the Grand Central Terminal in New York City.
Capturing, as he does, the passing of time and the beauty of the nature surrounding him, the message Ahae broadcasts to the world as he exhibits his photographs comes through loud and clear: open your eyes, see the amazing and very precious natural world around you, and do whatever you can to protect it before it is too late. Ahae wishes to make people aware of their immediate surroundings.
With the massive amount of everyday pictures he had to establish a photo-processing station. His philosophy is kept in the processing department, maintaining natural integrity with absolutely no manipulation of photographs, such as colour alteration, cutting and pasting, combining of photographs, or introduction of foreign elements into the images; only clean-up of photographs (aligning, spot-removing, and minor contrast and light correction) is allowed before the final works are printed.
