Yesterday we had the Gran Finale of our fun competition and it was really fun. Thank you to all who participated, we had over 50 submissions and lots of votes and comments from all over this tiny quarantined blue planet. If you did not get to participate in the online event you can see a 360º view or the Zoom recording and get a feeling of how it was.
The theme of the Photo CHallenge was “CHange”. Despite being a competition, the main idea was to motivate ourselves to remain creative and dust-off those poor cameras forgotten in a dark cold cabinet. The public vote selected the top 10 final images during a little over two weeks.
The selection of the winners needed some heavy-weights to help choose only three images. I could not have asked for better eyes and minds for the task:
Lino‘s photographic vision goes from Portrait to Fashion and Social reportage but never abandoning his daily street photography work. You can see more of his work on his website or Instagram profile.
Daniel has an impressive body of work that shows people in the most amazing ways, experimental, conceptual portraits, browsing through his galleries is an experience that will bring joy to your eyes. You can see more of his work on his website or Instagram profile.
After almost 2 hours considering the finalists according to the 1. Overall Image, 2. Technical Aspects and 3. Relationship to the Theme we came to the final three:
1st Place: Wind of Change?
This contrast and symbol for change can be seen all over Havana. Cubans were only allowed to start using cell phone in 2008. A new constitution in was adopted in 2019 that should give the impression that things are moving forward.

2nd Place: Time changes the gifts
My wife received this bottle of disinfectant as a small thank you for your help. How times change

3rd Place: “Lake Palms”
I saw the place from the train and knew immediately that I had to be here the next morning. And so I stood on the bank, slowly sinking into the water and waiting for the right mood in the sky. I had the straws in the foreground, which reminded me strongly of palm trees from this perspective and I wanted to capture this exotic view with the mountain in the background. When the sky turned red, all I had to do was press the shutter button.
