News
Daniel Tscharner told us the fresh news from CaptureOne and the exciting improvements coming this May.
We discussed briefly the future of our meetings, including restarting our photo walks. The first one comes in the end of May, stay tuned by subscribing to the blog using the form to the right and RSVP to the event.
We will do a model sharing day in the studio, if you are interested in shooting in a professional setting and have all arranged for you, just shoot me a message and I’ll send the details as soon as I have them.
And to close this section we will try to organize a flea market with used photography/video gear. I’ll post it to the blog as soon as we arrange the details.
FREE Inspiration and Knowledge
I really enjoyed this new section of our CHat. The concept is sharing whatever news, documentaries, training videos or inspiring images we found during the week.
I recently stumbled upon an interview with the magnificent Cartier-Bresson, the French humanist photographer and father of Street Photography. Even though you need to let yourself slow down to the pace of that time, it is worth hearing how amazing he was and his strong view about geometry and composition.
MoMA made available and for free a gorgeous collection of images and some videos from Dorothea Lange, the great American documentary photographer and photojournalist. She has an iconic body of work especially portraying the Great Depression and the Japanese in the USA during/after the World War.
PAID video: ok, you have to chip in for this one, but it is worth the 5 bucks! For the price of a coffee in Switzerland (if you can buy it…) you can spend gorgeous minutes watching the great stories from Sebastião Salgado. The Brazilian photographer has an impressive body of work that goes from the mining fields of Brazil to all corners of the globe. You can rent it on Amazon US, Amazon DE, YouTube, Google Play, Apple TV, Amazon Prime Video. To remain 100% transparent, these are affiliated links and if you purchase anything using them, I get a couple of cents.
Fine-Art Portraits: if you are reading this before Mai/10th you might still have enough time to watch this “Manual For Taking A Photo Series From Concept To Creation” on CreativeLive for #free. You can also check this link to see the next free classes streaming on their website.
Now you can subscribe to the Blog and make sure you don’t miss any news, invites, events and CHallenges. It is very easy and NO SPAM, promise. Just fill your info on the column to the right
Last one from this section: this Youtube CHannel has amazing and inspiring creative ideas that you can do from home and – hopefully – not destroy anything expensive while you do it. If you decide to try something crazy 1. I am not responsible and 2. don’t forget to call me to join! Jordi Koalitic is the author behind these cool ideas and the image to the left.
Group Questions
Reto from our Meetup group saw the Instagram Trick presented last week and sent a suggestion that we will tackle it next Tuesday: third party websites that allow you to post, schedule, set captions and tags for Instagram posts from your computer.
Nick asked some questions about liability and drone laws and public reactions in Switzerland. This is a theme that I hold very dear and we discussed it briefly. I have a strong feeling that many of us will revisit this. soon!
Photo Critique: Jan Aidel
Jan Aidel from Zürich Photography Meetup sent us the gorgeous image to the right so we could admire it and give our impressions.
Asides from the obvious statement that it is a beautiful image that had quite some thought behind it, we had some nice discussions and ideas.
What do you think of the image? and would you like to submit a photo for the group to discuss and suggest improvements? Just shoot me a message and we’ll make it happen.
Photo Challenge #4: Theme CHange
The next Photo CHallenge is online and awaits your submissions. As we discovered the winning photo from the last CHallenge, some people sent me messages with questions about the themes, so I made a little adjustment and this is what is valid:
- It will last until Mai/19th
- You can pick one or both themes to create/submit your photos:
- Free
- Colour(s)
- Posting and commenting are already open on the contest’s page
- Voting will open during the last week
- The final image will be selected by the online voting during one Tuesday Photo CHat.
As always, by participating you agree to the boring but necessary rules.
Improvements
If you have suggestions or would like to point something we could do better (or not at all) please send a message to feedback(a)CHaya.photo. You can also participate in our very tiny little quick one-minute survey and help me tailor the meetings as best as I can.
Bis Bald!
I would like to thank all who participated and wish you all a great one, whatever you are doing. We are almost at the finish line, take a deep breath, soon we will move on!
See you all next time!
