Grüetzi Galera!
2020 is the craziest year ever but it also goes by super fast! It is already August and we had another great Tuesday CHat in which we discussed many things related to photography and, most of all, we had a good time talking with good friends, new and old.
On the agenda this time:
- FREE Learning and Videos (documentaries, videos, fun and educational sources)
- 00:27 Avoid common mistakes in portrait photography by Karl Taylor.
- 01:24 Improve a lot the selection tool results in Photoshop by Jesús Ramirez.
- 02:57 An interview with the iconic David Hume by Joe Edelman.
- 04:21 Minute HUGE inspiration from the photos made by the impressive Japanese artist Tanaka Tatsuya.
- 08:53 Free Courses on CreativeLive, including content from Lindsay Adler.
- Photowalks
- 33:20 New Adobe Camera RAW
We meet weekly at 19:00 CEST to our Tuesday Photo CHats, you can see/download the PDF presented during the meeting and watch the full recording on Facebook and Youtube (on Youtube there are links to each specific section of the video). Everything written below is in full detail in the recordings and all mentioned links are listed in the PDF.
Don’t miss next week’s #Photowalk, RSVP here and consider subscribing to the blog using the column on the right and you won’t miss anything.
Video Recording of the Meeting
The Main Topics
Previous Photowalk
Despite many participants from our group are enjoying some vacation time away from Zürich, we had a blast and a full-house during our July Photowalk. You can see all the photos and comments in our Facebook Group or the Blog Post about it.
With many new photographers and some new models we went around Zürich’s old town and enjoyed the many gorgeous photo opportunities it offers.
Next Photowalk
In August we will meet again to photograph, enjoy like-minded friends and have a lot of fun. The location is still to be defined between two fantastic alternatives, both in Zürich.
Keep tuned to know all the details and RSVP at our main Meetup Group and see the photos from the previous one on Facebook.
Photo-World Freebies and Knowledge
Every week we gather the most interesting videos, tips, ideas and whatever catches our attention around the www. This week:
- 00:27 Avoid common mistakes in portrait photography by Karl Taylor.
- 01:24 Improve a lot the selection tool results in Photoshop by Jesús Ramirez.
- 02:57 An interview with the iconic David Hume by Joe Edelman.
- 04:21 Minute HUGE inspiration from the photos made by the impressive Japanese artist Tanaka Tatsuya.
- 08:53 Free Courses on CreativeLive, including content from Lindsay Adler.
Geeky Stuff: New Adobe Camera RAW (and finally some good improvements!)
Even though Adobe is the (very much) disputed king of the hill when it comes to the complete suite of applications they produce to edit photos and videos, among other things, they do not go without their share of criticism. The growth of the competition has brought the phenomenal Capture One, Topaz Labs, Luminar and other editing software to the competition and certainly made #Adobe focus on improving its software, be it Photoshop, Lightroom or their siblings.
Below are the improvements I considered the most relevant, we went in detail about each of them in the video and you can use the links to access the video directly during that subject:
33:20 New Adobe Camera RAW
- 36:50 Layout change
- 37:47 Interface update – Lightroom like
- Some name and tool changes
- 41:55 Hue Shift in Local Tools
- 43:24 New Curves Adjustment Tool
- Pressure Sensitivity in brushes
- 43:24 Configuration Tips – Improve Performance
Next Activities in Our Group
OUR BOOK
Sorry for the all caps title, but this project is very dear to me and I hope most of us will take part in it.
We will produce a book with the photos we took during/for our activities during 2020 and preserve some good memories from this crazy and unforgettable year. Regardless if it was a photo from the #lockdown assignments or from the photowalks, we will collect and select some of the gems we produced during this year and produce a book, which should be ready in December. With the book ready, we will get together to see it and celebrate the good times we had during this year’s tough ride.
#Drone Photowalk
Even though we are all photographers and love snapping from time to time, not all of us enjoy getting high ?. With that in mind, a part of our group will go to the gorgeous Klontalersee to fly around and capture that coveted birds-eye perspective.
Of course the activity is open to non-droning participants, everyone who is interested in knowing more please send me a message.
Should we call this a “photoflight”? ?
Weekend Photowalk
The plan to get together during a Saturday or Sunday on a mountain not so far away is on, it should happen sometime in the beginning of September. Want to join the ‘photo expedition’? Submit your availability in our little survey and start packing your bags.
Photo Laundry
The brothers from PICZ will organise and host an event in which we can take some printed photos and exchange them with the ones taken by other photographers. It is a great opportunity to meet network and get some photos printed, we have forgotten (some have actually never done it!) how amazing it is to see your photos in print.
You can find all the details and hopefully join the party at their website.
Guys Only Magazine
Sorry gals, you will have to only enjoy this from the passenger seat. ‘Our Tscharner couple‘ has yet another amazing project: they will shoot and produce a magazine featuring portraits from the lesser half of mankind, we male subjects ?.
The project alone is already gorgeous and you can see it on their website. The magazine is called 48 Be Visual and has – of course – its own website.
Interested? Shoot Daniel a message and he’ll get you in the loop.
Contribute and Don’t Miss the Next Meeting
Do you have something to suggest for our discussions? Please shoot me a message and we will make that happen.
Thanks to all who participated, I always finish our CHats with new energy and ideas! See you all on our next meeting.
