On this Halloween, I remembered this fun and beautiful project, DraKolly’s Vampire Date.
It does not matter if you like the date or complain about the pagan festival, it is a curious time to play with scary and funny concepts, such as challenging make-up and acting. The first chapter was “The First Date”, commissioned by the fantastic Swiss actor Roger Kolly, who does not have an Instagram profile but can (and should) be visited at www.roger-kolly.ch. Make-up and dead vampire mask were gorgeously made by the talented Julia Althof @julia.althof. After MANY hours of shooting, our “Weicheie” vampire was almost literally dead.
After all the fun and good results, Roger commissioned Chapter 2: The Vampire Princess, this time featuring the beautiful Olga Ritter @catching_beauty_dreams as the soon-to-be-bitten innocent girl. This time the evolving make-up was trusted to the also talented Vera Maximova @veramaxmakeup. In the planning stages, I set the session to evolve as the darkness of the character would, first with a broad light and light make-up, as the bite happened a less balanced light and grey background. In the end, as our poor girl embraced the darkness the make-up was also heavy and impressive, as the mood, lighting and background turned darker and moodier.
I wholeheartedly thank all the involved parties; this project was very challenging but also lots of fun. As of now our dark hero Kolly has already chapter three in his eyesight, this time we will shoot inside a castle and evolve this sweet vampire saga. Grab your garlic popcorn and come with us!
