Nowadays keeping up with the growth of AI tools is a Herculean multi-task that would get CHatGPT itself spinning, if you blink twice there will be already a new AI-powered solution. The number of tools that are being rapidly developed and implemented is staggering, and it also brings a discussion about their life-changing roles and actual necessity.
I believe that many of these tools are aimed at simplifying the lives of creators and should allow them to be more productive in less time. In Adobe’s own words: “Firefly will mix the power of our applications with the promise of generative AI in ways that empower you to express your creative ideas with greater efficiency and without constraints.”. I was a bit surprised when I saw how much that represents how I feel about AI (most of the time), I would just like to add that this new technology will also reduce entry barriers in many industries. Imagine someone that cannot draw but has amazing ideas inside her head. Thanks to Stable Diffusion Models she can now give wings to her thoughts, quite literally.
One such advancement is the use of generative AI tools that can create and transform audio, video, illustrations, and 3D models using text prompts. Adobe recently boasted their text to edit AI tools, something that can will exponentially simplify the process by allowing creators to write what they envision and the machine will do the hard lifting.
Pardon me if I stick to “AI-dobe” but they recently announced an AI-driven truckload (pun intended, sorry! 😊) of news. when working with Photoshop, the neural filters and liquid mode features of Firefly can turn an ordinary photo into a work of art with just a few clicks. No need to spend hours trying to perfect the color balance or saturation levels of an image when the AI can do it in a fraction of the time.
Similarly, when working with PremierePro and AfterEffects, Firefly’s AI magic can boost productivity by helping professional editors streamline their work and automate tasks. The platform’s new capabilities include adjusting colour levels, inserting placeholder images, adding effects, and recommending b-roll for a given project by typing their ideas into a text prompt, which will then use natural language processing to make the suggested changes. Firefly’s generative AI features also extend to audio, allowing users to insert background music and sound effects. This can save creators hours of time that can be better spent on more creative tasks.
This kind of simplification of the workflow is already a reality from word processing to audio work, and the latter might be a great example of how non-technical “normal” users could easily express their creativity once freed from software buying and learning barriers: There are some simple to use tools that edit the contents of an audio interview or podcast by treating the content, they use AI to transcribe the speech and then work on the content. With such tools a person who knows nothing about sound editing could have a podcast running by simply recording and then editing the text, AI works its magic and reflects the changes in the sound file. I imagine this could make it easier for people to create, wouldn’t it? You can see a lot more about this in this excellent post by Endgadget.
With the help of these AI tools, creators can spend less time on menial tasks and more time on what they do best: watching YouTube videos creating. One way to see this is as just the beginning of a future in which AI will help us get more done and still use less time by automating the not-creative tasks. The possibilities are endless, and we can’t wait to see what’s in store. Some people have strong reasons to consider this cheating and potential creativity killers that will drag the former art greatness to a new low.
I confess I see a world where this will boost creativity by removing the entry barriers and repetitive work, thus allowing more people to create and people to create more in less time. Of course, fewer barriers will cause a tsunami of shallow content but I am hopeful that there will be content for every audience. I am very curious to know what you think about it, please share your thoughts in the comments below or in our Discord group.
