ON1 Resize AI Update
ON1 has just announced updates to its ON1 Resize AI software, which uses AI models to upscale photos while maintaining quality. The new version includes AI Face Recovery, enabling the software to detect and upscale small faces in photos, reconstructing them with realistic features and textures. The update also includes a component from the company’s NoNoise AI software to reduce noise, JPG and over-sharpening artefacts.
Sample Images
I just saw some of its results and they are quite impressive, especially on faces. As I used other software, I had many times issues with weird artefacts happening on hair and facial features, I noticed less of the latter on their ad material. I know it is ad material, we need to wait for real-life tests, which I’ll do as soon as it is available to download. If you try it, I’d love to read your impressions and results in the comments or on our Discord Group.
Competition
There are quite some alternatives out there with or without AI on the co-pilot seat.
- Photoshop has its own solution, which leaves almost no room to steer the way the resizing is done and sometimes leads to less than great results in my experience.
- Topaz Labs Giga AI is up to now my go-to solution. AI, plenty of control over the process and batch conversion are my top reasons to prefer this. Let’s see if 2023.5 can change this!
